How do you play Taboo?
Each player gets a card with a main word and forbidden words. They have to make their team guess the main word without saying any forbidden ones, in 60 seconds per turn. Say a forbidden word, lose the point. Team guesses, you score.
How many players do you need?
Minimum 4 (two teams). Best between 6 and 12. Larger groups also work — each player just gets fewer turns.
Is it free?
100% free. No premium tier, no signup, no download. Works directly in any browser.
Do I need to download an app?
No. SoyTaboo runs entirely in the browser. Ideal for companies that don't allow extra software installs.
How long is each turn?
Each turn lasts 60 seconds by default (adjustable). Time pressure is part of the essence of Taboo: explain fast without falling into the forbidden words.
Does it work for team building at companies?
Yes — one of the most common use cases. 15-20 min session that breaks the ice, mixes departments, reveals who communicates best. See the team building page.
Does it work on Zoom, Teams or Meet?
Yes. Share screen with the word, or use one central device. The timer runs on screen for everyone.
Can I change the timer length?
Yes. Default is 60 seconds, adjustable. New groups: longer timer. Experienced groups: shorten it to crank up the pressure.
What categories are there?
General, Tech, and other themed categories. Words are designed to be guessable but with forbidden words that are hard to dodge — that's the challenge.
Is there a Spanish version?

What's the recommended minimum age?
Age 10 and up. Requires vocabulary and the ability to explain without resorting to obvious words.
How long is a game?
A typical 2-3 round game lasts 15-20 minutes. Each turn is 60 seconds.
